Introducing: The Nike SB Ishod
Joining Nike SB in 2016, three years after being awarded 2013 Thrasher Magazine’s Skater of The Year, New Jersey-born skater Ishod Wair celebrates the arrival of his first signature silhouette, the Nike SB Ishod. Known for his infamous Nike SB Dunk Low Pro ‘Ishod Wair’ colourway series and for his work alongside the likes of additional sponsors such as Thunder Trucks and Real Skateboards, this Nike SB clothing and footwear capsule celebrates Wair’s ongoing legacy as it transcends into the New Year.

Heavily inspired by the likes of P-Rod, Rodney Mullen, Allen Iverson and Michael Jordan, Ishod Wair’s iconic skate style and creative persona is one that has continued to evolve tenfold since he first started skating at the age of 8. Skating all the well and lesser-known spots that cropped up around his hometown of Bordertown, east of the Delaware river, Wair’s infamous legacy is one filled with accolades racked up from events such as the AmsterDamn Am Finals, Tampa Pro Finals and the internationally renowned XGames. The first African-American to be awarded Thrasher’s Skater of the Year accolade, Wair continues to inspire many with his self defined style sense and his seemingly endless talent. Appearing in edits such as Real Skateboards’ ‘Be Free’ session, Spitfire’s ‘Keep the Fire Burning’ and Nike SB’s own ‘True to Form In The Bay’ edit from 2018 alongside Alex Olson and Donovon Piscopo, as well as being widely known for his Nike SB Orange Label release a year later, Ishod Wair is a new-age skater with an ageless temperament and a visionary mindset to match.
Backed by his recent Porsche 911 inspired release in partnership with Los Angeles based auto enthusiast Magnus Walker, the Ishod x Magnus Walker Dunk High, and by his ‘Back On My BS’ video part accompanying Nike SB Blazer Chukka XT, Ishod’s passion for skate is one continually intertwined with his own love for OG court culture, his self-confessed first love, and his appreciation for fast cars and an innate need for speed, both on and off the board. Dubbed ‘your favourite skateboarder’s, favourite skateboarder’, the 30 year old pro rider never ceases to inspire when it comes to combining elements of personal intrigue and performative function into one unique design.
With an accompanying Summit White variation due next month, the signature Nike SB Ishod has remained a highly anticipated release ever since the skater’s initial Nike SB Dunk Low Pro interpretation debuted in 2016. Following on from a series that has extended over the course of six years, the Nike SB Ishod arrives as the first signature release for the influential pro rider. Inspired by the iconic Nike Air Darwin and AJ-9 with its referential colourway, and by Wair’s love for basketball, this low collared skate shoe delivers a court-to-concrete narrative wrapped in its own unique styling. Born from a desire to create something all-together unique, the Nike SB Ishod features premium suede uppers in earthy tones, whilst the breathable mesh sidewalls combine well with the molded plastic overlays to provide a highly structured wear built to handle even the most demanding of skate styles. A drop-in Nike React insole is paired with a revolutionised vulcanised cupsole construction and a grippy underfoot tread for enhanced boardfeel and comfort, whilst the flexible internal caging allows for a supportive wear, both on and off the board. Perforations across the toe box offer subtle reference to Wair’s iconic Nike SB Dunk legacy, whilst the recessed six eyelet lacing system is accompanied by a midfoot strap for additional security. Pops of bright red honour the skater’s undoubted flair through the miniature forefoot Swoosh, the supportive ‘Nike SB’ branded heel brace, the ‘Ishod’ embroidered tongue and the mirrored heel tabs, whilst the custom insoles keep the design’s signature assignment in mind and the oversized reverse print rear foot Swooshes seal the design with an additional layer of detail.
Accompanying the signature silhouette for 2022 is a capsule Nike SB clothing release including signature Ishod Wair Pants which have been designed with skate specific function in mind thanks to their five pocketed design and straight leg tailoring, whilst the two all-new Nike SB Storm-FIT Ishod Wair Jackets deliver a high performance layer of protection crafted with a weather resistant exterior shell and a synthetically insulated filling. Built to handle the demands of all-weather skate settings, the SP22 Ishod Wair capsule celebrates the skater’s passion for skate, modern-day streetwear fashion and performativity without compromising on contemporary creativity.
