Nike SB Mosaic Pack
Focusing on the coastal city of Barcelona for its ‘Found City’ showcase and as inspiration behind their latest Mosaic Pack release, Nike SB’s Art & Community influence for AW21 is one that captures imaginative creativity and architectural intrigue across the changing months of the year. Arriving as a capsule collection of apparel with two colour blocked revisions of the iconic Nike SB Blazer Mid Premium, Nike SB’s Mosaic Pack combines abstract invention with an ode to urban entanglement for a unique ode to what’s commonly dubbed the City of Gaudí.

Home to the legacy of Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, and the unapologetic use of both colour and conceptual imagination across its nonconformist architectural landscape, Barcelona’s abstract cityscape is one that has continued to evolve since the Modernist movement of the 20th century. Blending modern architecture with traditional Catalan Gothic influence, the Nike SB Mosaic Pack focuses on texture and the particulars of early morning cobblestone-struck lighting for its ‘like the sun coming up after nasty mondays’ tagline, with architectural hotspots such as El Born’s Santa Caterina Market, the landmark Torre Glòries, Gaudí’s ‘trencadís’ mosaic Casa Batllo and the monument viewpoint of Park Güell all offering their own intricate mis-match influence to the release. Paying homage not only to architecture, the latest Community of Art instalment also pays subtle tribute to Barcelona’s influential skate scene presence, with favoured hang outs such as The Museum of Contemporary Art’s Macba spot host to an international reputation that honours the city’s widely received moniker of being Europe's skate Mecca.
Styled with similarity to the previously released patchwork Blazer Mid’s inspired by communal art spots found around Barcelona city, two all-new mix match colourways of the Nike SB Blazer Mid Premium arrive alongside the Mosaic Pack apparel to pay reference to the city’s illustrious architectural landscape. A dark burgundy and black pair offer subtle reference to iconic landscape markers such as Park Güel’s many fountains, with the vivid rainforest green variant styled in honour of the colourfully tiled chimneys seen on the roof of Palau Güell. Imagined by designer Bryce Wong, the Nike SB Blazer Mid Premium remains true to its classic courtside narrative with its resilient high collared uppers, whilst its contemporary revision welcomes increased tactile detailing obtained through the choice use of fabrics such as premium leather, brushed suede and abrasion resistant cotton canvas. Its distortive aesthetic taps into the city's unruly appeal, with DIY auxetic overlays and a practical ollie patch overlay styled with skate specific necessity in mind. The fully vulcanised construction, Zoom Air insole and classic rubber outsole combine to deliver performative wear, whilst the mosaic-style embroidered mesh heel panel and the synthetic tongue are both styled in reference to their own unique colourway. Both designs feature a deconstructed and multi-textured quarter panel Swoosh, with the recessed 8 eyelet lacing system complementing each patchwork eyelet fold as they secure the ‘Nike SB’ embroidered tongue across the natural arch of the foot. Signed off with custom insoles and a noted sense of symbolism that remains true to the city's Catalonia heritage.
Pairing 100% premium cotton with intricate 3D embroidery, the Nike SB Mosaic Pack tees arrive in both a bold black and dark wine colouring to complement the aforementioned Blazer Mid Premiums. Casual tailoring and a consideration for skate-centric comfort are retained across the crew collared silhouettes, with the multi-tonal embroidered ‘Nike SB’ mosaic details sewn across the centre of the chest a statement sign off inspired by the brand’s expressive nature. Adhering to the demands of the colder months of the year, the Nike SB Mosaic Premium Fleece Hoodie delivers a high layer of insulatory comfort through its reworked sportswear profiling, with the same multicoloured embroidered detailing bringing added textural depth across both its black and burgundy designs. Keeping up with ‘90s trends and designed to deliver ample wrap-around coverage when paired with any explorative skate or street-led setting, the capsule collection also features the Nike SB Mosaic Bucket Hat; a resilient 100% polyester headwear staple that features colour blocked panels, contrasting stitching and a creative sense of all-season functionality.
The autumnal instalment of their ‘Community of Art’ release that initially debuted earlier this year and paid tribute to communal art spaces such as Barcelona’s ArtSpace and Fase studio, the Nike SB Mosaic pack also follows on from the ‘Community of Sport’ release that took creative influence from Nike’s influential NikeCourt lineage. Similarly coming full circle to honour Barça’s racket sport accolades and Camp Nou legacy, SU21 and FA21 for sportswear pioneers Nike SB ultimately focuses on Catalonian culture and Barcelona’s rich artistic lineage as its muse.
