Nike SB Orange Label Dunk Low Pro 'Unbleached Lilac'
Following on from May’s collegiate Nike SB Blazer and Dunk High Pro Orange Label release, and simultaneously arriving as part of the brand’s latest ‘Unbleached’ pack, a ‘90s dip dyed Nike SB Dunk Low joins the ever growing roster of #supportyourlocalskateshop releases for 2021. Adhering to contemporary trends with its pastel hued colourway, this unique release taps into the core of Nike creativity as it delivers an unrepeated aesthetic with no two pairs styled the same.

Paying creative homage to the ‘90s and early ‘00s trend of hand-dyeing and ombre effect aesthetics, the Nike SB Dunk Low receives a grunge-era inspired revision that captures not only the brand’s passion for artistic expression, but also the courtside classic’s ambidextrous side too. Styled with similarity to other Nike SB releases such as 2015’s Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Bleached Denim’ and 2019’s ‘Raygun Tie-Dye’ Dunk Low Pro, this dip dyed silhouette finds itself well assigned to its ‘Unbleached’ moniker as it embraces a random dying process that grants each pair with its own unique sense of character. Leaving the natural hemp fibres to complement the pastel lilac colouring for added texture, this latest Orange Label release turns its attention to artisanal techniques as it mirrors other handicraft inspired designs such as the decorative ‘Sashiko’ Dunk Low Pro Premium from July 2020.
Pairing premium leather, resilient cotton canvas and sturdy suede to create a multi-textured silhouette with a hand dyed finish, the Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Unbleached’ is a low collared skate shoe that pairs its iconic courtside legacy with its all new skate specific intent. A lilac splattered crisp white midsole pays indication to its unique dip dyed process with its watermarked aesthetic, whilst the full length cupsole stitch, gum rubber outsole and the grippy underfoot circular tread combine to deliver a premium day on day wear backed by a performative construction and a heightened sense of impact absorbent boardfeel. An integrated Zoom Air unit adheres to its timely rewrite, whilst the reinforced cotton canvas underlays feature a subtle two tone colouring that complements the crisp white leather Swooshes displayed across each quarter panel. Puffy and interchangeable laces across the recessed 7 eyelet fastening system keep the cushioned Swoosh embroidered tongue securely placed against the natural arch of the foot, with the lilac trim styled in contrast to the washed white interior lining and the custom Orange Label insoles. Signed off with classic ‘Nike’ embroidered branding sewn in a traditional white stitch across each heel for a referential finish that merges well with the swooping Swooshes and the tonal trims.
Established in 2020 and continuing to gain momentum season after season, Nike SB’s Orange Label project is one that focuses on promoting the fundamentals of both local and international skate communities. Backed by exclusive team rider collaborations, including those with the likes of Ishod Wair, Leo Baker and ‘Oski’ Oskar Rozenberg, the Orange Label initiative strikes at the heart of community connectedness thanks to the brand’s endless ode to independent skate shops and their authenticated ability to celebrate ungoverned creativity without compromising on the necessities of performative function.
