Nike SB x Sean Cliver Dunk Low
Teaming up with StrangeLove Skateboards founder and good-friend Sean Cliver for their latest Dunk Low instalment, Nike SB introduce their newest three-piece release inspired by the looming festive period and colder climate. Following on from his iconic and aptly titled ‘StrangeLove’ strawberry-toned Nike SB Dunk Lows from earlier this year, former Powell-Peralta designer Cliver continues with conceptual tradition to deliver yet another Dunk to the ever-expanding rota.
With a notable 30 year creative legacy to his name, countless collaborations with the likes of Supreme and Baker Skateboards under his belt and abstract-minded sneakers such as the ‘Disposable’ Dunk Low and SPoT ‘Gasparilla’ marked with his expressive graphic artistry, StrangeLove proprietor Sean Cliver is no stranger to the experimental footwear game. Rising to fame in 2012 with his holiday-hued Dunk High ‘Krampus’ silhouette, revolutionary mastermind Cliver has also gone on to curate some of the most memorable hardware designs to date, with his playfully unrestrained aesthetic now cast across hundreds of decks across the world. Delivering a similar seasonal twist with his own name as its reference-point, the Nike SB x Sean Cliver Dunk Low combines custom creativity with Nike innovation to suit the approaching end of year.
Mixing matte and metallic tones to tap into the joyous aesthetic of the festive period, these icy-hued skate shoes host a tenuous resemblance to team-rider Ishod Wair’s Nike SB ‘Blue Spark’ Dunk Low Pro, whilst their metallic-gold trims pay homage to the garlands, bunting and tinsel spritely showcased across the holiday months. Premium-grade white leather and velvety blue-suede fabrics come together to celebrate this unique composure in line with frosty-toned underpinnings, whilst the ice-blue rubber outsole is creatively flecked with gold-glitter trimmings for a touch of noble character. The classic pivot-circle and multi-directional tread across the underfoot remains loyal to the OG Dunk DNA, whilst the reinforced bright-yellow cupsole stitch ensures year-round structural support to suit any given occasion. In place of the usual stacked perforations across the toe-box, snowflake designs adhere to the sneaker’s wintery vibe, with the silver puffy laces securing the commemorative ‘Nike SB Cliver’ branded velvet tongue for added comfort. Nike’s iconic Zoom Air unit provides extra cushioning as and when required across the sockliner, whilst the velour-lined interior delivers a subtle yet tangible nod to its preceding ‘StrangeLove’ silhouette from 2020. For added Christmas cheer, custom split-sneaker insoles showcase exclusive artwork from the multifaceted skater, designer and author - with its elvish design keeping the festive tone in check.
Joined by matching Dunk Low Toddler Shoes and Dunk Low Preschool Shoes, to mirror the likes of the BE@RBRICK Dunk Low Medicom Shoes from August and the Sandy Bodecker referencing ‘Raygun Tie-Dye’ from 2019, non-conformist illustrator Sean Cliver also arrives as the celebrated ‘North America’ divisional instalment for Nike SB’s latest ‘Artist Series’ collection alongside the likes of fellow creatives Javier Menziabal, Speto (Paulista Paulo Cesar Silva) and Mooncasket (Evangeline Chan). Combining snowy odes to festive nostalgia with both parties' ingenious approach to conceptual styling, the Nike SB x Sean Cliver Dunk Low delivers intangible character well-suited to feet both big and small.
