Vans Rowan Pro
Born in Vista, California, the birthplace of the iconic H-Street Skateboards (Ternasky, Way, Koston, Carrol etc), Vans and Baker pro Rowan Zorilla offers bags of nostalgia by a combination of a 90’s influenced skateboarding aesthetic coupled perfectly with a hypnotically rhythmic assortment of tricks. Given his first set-up by his Dad when he was a child, Rowan was captured by the limitless nature of skating, soon beginning to progress and develop the punchy yet tech style he’s since locked down. Growing up skating with his crew ‘Shep Dawgs’, Rowan managed to bag a few tricks in Riley Hawk’s section in Baker Skateboards’ 2012 video ‘Bake and Destroy’, which stirred a few heads within the industry - the video still bangs today. Prior to this, Rowan was receiving boards from Tum Yeto’s Foundation but things didn’t really amount to much. Getting the call from Reynolds, it didn’t take much persuasion to get a Baker board under Rowan’s newly Vans christened feet.
Shifting up a gear, 2015 would prove a heavy year for Rowan, with his introductory part in the first Vans full length ‘Propeller’ (who doesn’t love a Thrasher Raw Files part? And that kickflip ender..) alongside a Vans roster including Rowley, AVE, Berle, Tony Trujillo and your boy Chima. If that wasn’t big enough, RZ scored the cover of Thrasher in July and December, smashing a wall-ride and barley grind respectively. Signing off 2015, Rowan was nominated for the highly regarded SOTY award but was beaten to the punch by fellow Vans rider AVE.
Alongside skating for Baker and Vans, Rowan is apparel sponsored by Supreme. Filmed and edited by Strobeck and Logan, ‘Blessed’ dropped in 2018, shortly followed by ‘Candyland’ in 2019, with RZ skating alongside Kader, Sage and Tyshawn - set in the West Coast bay area with hill bombs in abundance. Late 2019 saw the release of Baker 4 - which was 15 years after the cult-followed Baker 3. With hype rising for nigh on a decade, the video certainly didn’t disappoint, projecting the talent of new blood Tristan Funkhouser, Tyson Peterson and Zach Allen etc, with solid parts from OG’s Spanky, Bryan Herman, The Boss and Sammy Bacca. Rowan shut the curtains on 2019 with his nollie 360 kickflip ender in SF, seeing him ride off into the sunset. Seems only fitting eh?
New for February 2020, Rowan Zorilla deservedly receives his inaugural pro shoe, the Vans Rowan. Stylised initially in a drop of four colourways, the Vans Rowan takes design cues from classics like the Old Skool and Halfcab while also featuring two brand new technical innovations to the Vans Pro footwear lineup. SickStick and PopCush. SickStick is a gum rubber compound which is added to the sole and foxing tape delivering enhanced durability and grip, while PopCush is a brand new footbed working to offer you unrivalled impact protection.
Hitting the store alongside the footwear, Vans complete the Rowan drop with a line of apparel. Consisting of a range of monochromatic tees in short and long sleeve iterations, the addition of a workwear inspired shirt and relaxed fitting jeans seal the deal.
The Vans Rowan Pro will be available at Flatspot on Saturday 15th February 2020 at 00:00AM (GMT).
